Community Health & Wellness Expo
A community wide Health and Wellness Expo is scheduled at the East Point First Mallalieu United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 28, 2013 between 10:00 a.m and 2:00 p.m. The community is invited to take advantage of these free health screenings and wellness workshops conducted by health care professionals, local medical agencies, and wellness practitioners from throughout south metro and the Atlanta area.
This outreach event will include healthcare screenings such as blood pressure, glucose, body mass readings, evaluations, and cholesterol screenings. Workshop and video presentations will include subjects on parenting, stress, financial controls, and youth issues. You’ll also be able to find out about weight management and watch live cooking demonstrations.
Rite Aid Pharmacy will offer flu shots for seniors with insurance or Medicaid coverage. You’ll be able to talk with an acupuncturist or chiropractor about annoying pains and/or discomfort. Don’t forget to stop by our relaxation zone for a complimentary neck and shoulder massage! West End Medical will provide information on The PeachCare for Kids program and provide a presentation on the Affordable Care Act and how it can impact your medical coverage. Other supporters include the American Cancer Society, Kidney Foundation, Council on Aging, Wellcare , Georgia Cares, Children Healthcare of Atlanta, Tenet Healthcare, MARTA Senior Community Outreach, University of Georgia Extension Services, National Institute of Health and the Asthma Coalition and Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness. Members of the East Point Fire Department will also be on hand to discuss ‘first responder’ emergency practices and provide free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. They will also be bringing their Fire Safety House that will teach children preventive measures on how to escape a fire.
